After watching college players compete in the Judson Collegiate for the past four years at her home course, Country Club of Roswell member, Amanda Doherty, finally got her chance to join them this week and made the most of it. As an incoming Freshman at Florida State University this Fall, Amanda was able to join the field and fulfill her dream of being a part of this unique collegiate experience. Amanda put in a strong performance on the first two days of competition and by the end of day two, she was in third place and only 2 back from the tournament leader headed into the final round.
After a strong 2-under on the front nine on day three, Amanda faltered a bit on the back with 3 bogeys and 1 birdie, but made a clutch up and down out of the greenside bunker on 18 to stay at the top of the leaderboard. 2015's second place finisher, Sarah Bae, made a tough birdie putt to tie for first on the same hole and force a playoff; the first in Judson Collegiate history.
Both players had great tee shots off of the par-5 18th, giving them the opportunity to go for the green in two. Amanda hit a beautiful fairway wood to within 15ft. Her eagle putt just missed the right edge of the cup and her tap in birdie gave her the 2016 title. Congratulations Amanda!
